Pepe Heykoop, London

 21 czerwca odbyło się otwarcie  pierwszej poza Holandią wystawy Pepe Heykoop'a. Poza jego wcześniejszą serią krzeseł the Skin Collection, można było zobaczyć także jego nową realizację- the Brickchair.

On the 21st of June I visited an opening of Pepe Heykoop's first outside of the Netherlands exhibition of the Skin Collection and his new creation- the Brickchair.

W the Skin Collection projektant używa kawałków skóry- powstałych jako odpadki w przemyśle meblowym. Autor pokrywa istniejące już meble, tak że zyskują one nową organiczną formę, kojarzącą się np. z komórkami.

In his Skin Collection he uses leather waste produced by the furniture industry. By covering the existing furniture objects he creates the organic- like structures that relate to cells and skin patterns.

Krzesło Brickchair zostało zainspirowane szkicem Jamesa Gullivera Hancocka i jest w całości zbudowane z drewnianych klocków dla dzieci. 

The Brickchair was inspired by James Gulliver Hancock's sketch and is made of toy building blocks.

Prace Heykoop'a zachęcają nas do dyskusji nad pozbawionymi funkcji meblami- dziełami sztuki i w pełni funkcjonalnymi projektami.
Łączenia poszczególnych kawałków skóry mogłyby z czasem zmieniać się pod wpływem użytkowania, taka interakcja między użytkownikiem a siedziskiem wydaje mi się być sporą zaletą.

Heykoops works however go further and provoke a disscussion on function deprived art-furniture and fully functional designs.
The leather seams could be another asset as they could adapt to the user changing the design as time goes by.
